Race Report - City of Sails

Hi all,

Here’s an update of my weekend racing in Auckland for the city of sails kart comp. Friday morning we did plenty of laps testing different things on both karts then at 1pm qualifying started, I qualified 3rd in the DVS class just missing out on pole by 0.04 of a second. In the junior rotax class I qualified 10th missing out by 0.152 of a second out of 32 karts.

On Saturday it was tricky conditions and it was hard to set the karts up I had some ok races in both classes with some good battles. some races with wet tyres on some with slicks.

Sunday it was finals day and still the sky couldn’t make its mind up if it was going to rain or not, we set both karts up with a setup that could handle all weather conditions and chose which tires to run just before we went out.
The kart felt good going into the rotax junior final considering we were struggling to make our minds up on what to do I started the final 9th but got a bad start and dropped back to 13th but slowly but surely made my way back up to 5th.

The DVS final was good considering I was starting 6th after some bad luck in the heats I made my way up to 4th in the first couple laps but since the field was so close and the same speed once I had cleared others I got to 4th but the top 3 had already broken away and I finished 4th.

This was my first weekend back in a big event for the season. Although it was challenging for us all, I had the best time and was pumped to be driving two awesome karts! The weekend definitely would not have been possible without the help of Nick and Taylor Mitchell, who helped with everything as dad had hurt his leg.

Looking ahead I have a series of big events coming up each month that all count towards 2 series called Kartstars and Rok cup with the chance to win a ticket to Italy to race. In two weeks time I am racing at Kartsport Hamilton in the NZ Grand Prix. This is a tier 1 event and will have all the best competitors from all around NZ coming to race. It’s my home track and I am getting excited to get some practice in before the big weekend.

Thanks to my legendary sponsors, the support is appreciated!

Cheers Carson Daly
